Post-bariatric surgery and body lift
Post-bariatric surgery: the operation that comes after a stable weight
Removal of excess skin after major weight loss.
01 · The procedure
Body changes after bariatric surgery
After major weight loss, excess skin on the abdomen, breasts, arms, thighs and back can begin to compromise both appearance and patients' quality of life. Treatment must be planned and often needs to be done in stages, since treating every area in a single surgery is not safe.
The starting point is the patient's weight stability, with appropriate nutritional, clinical and laboratory assessment.
- Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)Surgery to correct diastasis and excess abdominal sagging resulting from weight loss, after bariatric surgery or after slimming down.
- Mastopexy (breast lift)Surgery to correct breast sagging and droop. It can be performed with or without silicone implants, depending on the patient's wish for fuller cleavage and volume and on the amount of breast tissue.
- Brachioplasty (arm lift)Surgery to correct sagging in the arm region, delivering a more attractive contour, free of excess skin.
- Cruroplasty (thigh lift)Surgery to remove excess skin from the inner thigh, delivering a more aesthetically pleasing contour.
- TorsoplastySurgery to remove excess skin from the back, for patients with marked sagging after major weight loss.

Individual accounts of care and experience; results vary from person to person and are not a promise of outcome.
How long after bariatric surgery can I have this surgery?
The criterion is a stable weight for a few months, not a fixed date. Operating during weight loss means redoing the work later, with new excess skin.
Can everything be done at once?
Not safely. Combined surgical time and scope make it unfeasible. Planning is done in stages, with intervals that respect the recovery of each one.
Are the scars large?
They are. The amount of skin to be removed defines the length, and there's no way to resect a large excess with a short scar. This is discussed in detail before the decision.
Why do I need nutritional follow-up?
Because healing depends on nutritional status, and deficiencies are common after bariatric surgery. Exams and prior correction are part of the preoperative stage of each phase.
Does health insurance cover it?
There may be coverage in situations with documented functional impact. The necessary clinical documents are provided, but the decision belongs to the insurer.

After major weight loss, correction comes in stages and with stable weight. The right order of those stages comes from the consultation.
